Intervija ar cilveekiem kuri piedaliijaas ieroču izstraadē. Džons Hovs ir pazīstams arī kā LOTR ilustrētājs.

Intervijā par elfu zobeniem tika teikts: Why not? It fits well with their style of combat, and it's very Art Nouveau. Did Professor Tolkien say they are all straight? Damn, I must have missed that bit!

Un, acīmredzot, cilvēks nav kārtīgi iepazinies ar Tolkīna darbiem... Ir tikai divas vietas (man zināmas) Tolkīna tekstos, kur pieminēti izliekti zobeni:

Egalmoth was their chieftain, and wore a blue mantle upon which the stars were broidered in crystal, and his sword was bent -- now none else of the Noldoli bore curved swords -- yet he trusted rather to the bow, and shot therewith further than any among that host.

- šeit Tolkīns lieliski parāda, ka izliekti zobeni ir liels retums un faktiski netiek lietoti elfu vidū...

Arī vēlākos tekstos profesors nepiemin izliektus zobenus, līdz beidzot HoME3 parādās kāds interesants dzejolis, kas stāsta par vēl pirms iepriekšējā citātā attēlotajiem notikumiem, un šeit ir teikts, ka Turgons lietoja falchion (izliektu viduslaiku tipa zobenu):

"For Hurin standing storm unheeding,
unbent in battle, with bitter laughter
his axe wielded -- as eagle's wings
the sound of its sweep, swinging deadly;
as livid lightning it leaped and fell,
as toppling trunks of trees riven
his foes had fallen. Thus fought he on,

- tomēr arī šis gadījums man izskatās vairāk pēc izņēmuma..

Tas, kā Tolkīns ir uzsvēris īzliekta zobena lietošanas gadījumus, man liek domāt, ka šādi zobeni bija īsts retums, un ka pārsvarā tika lietoti taisni zobeni.. Es neredzu iemeslu, kāpēc elfiem būtu jālieto ieliekti zobeni, kā šis cilvēks intervijā centās to apgalvot.
