Vai balrogi var lidot?, Beidzot arī latviski!! Opcijas

Laipni lūdzam nebeizamajā diskusijā par tēmu, kas Tolkīna fanu pasaulē aizsākās jau dažus gadus atpakaļ :
"Vai Balrogi var lidot?"

Lūdzu savu viedokli pamatot, nevis sūtīt atbildes “Jā, var/nē, (ne)var. Tapēc, ka man tā liekas. (IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/tongue.gif) “ lai šī būtu diskusija un nepārvērstos par nejēdzīgu spamošanu.

Tātad, kāpēc virsrakstā nav uzsvērts jautājums, vai viņiem bija spārni?
To, ka viņiem bija spārni, Tolkīns pasaka FOTR:

"The Balrog made no answer. The fire in it seemed to die, but the darkness grew. It stepped forward slowly on to the bridge, and suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall..."

Un tad vēl aina:

"Soon it appeared as a great winged creature, blacker than the pits in the night. Fierce voices rose up to greet it from across the water. Frodo felt a sudden chill running through him and clutching at his heart; there was a deadly cold, like the memory of an old wound, in his shoulder.

Kurai vēlāk seko dialogs starp Leogolasu, Gimli un Frodo:

'But who can say what it hit?' said Legolas.
'I cannot,' said Gimli. `But I am glad that the shadow came no nearer. I liked it not at all. Too much it reminded me of the shadow in Moria - the shadow of the Balrog,' he ended in a whisper.
'It was not a Balrog,' said Frodo, still shivering with the chill that had come upon him. 'It was something colder. I think it was -' Then he paused and fell silent."

Kurai gan nav tieša sakara ar Balrogiem, jo runa ir par spārnotu Nazgulu, bet fakts, ka Gimli spārnotā figūra atgādināja Balrogu, norāda, ka tam, ko Gimli atcerējās(resp., Balrogam) bija spārni.
Līdz ar to jautājums, vai Balrogiem ir spārni vairs nav tik interesants(varat gan mēģināt to apstrīdēt (IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/whistling.gif) ) kā jautājums, vai viņi tos praktiski izmantoja - vai viņi lidoja.


Aizstāvu viedokli, ka šīs Tolkīna radības tomēr varēja lidot, jo nereti Tolkīns savos darbos saistībā ar Balrogiem lieto apzīmējumus “spārnots”, kā piemēram,

"swiftly they arose, and they passed with winged speed over Hithlum, they came to Lammoth as a tempest of fire."

Kā rakstīja pats Tolkīns, vai arī tās pašas rindas, kas rodamas Silmarillionā, bet tās rediģējis viņa dēls Kristofers:

” Swiftly they arose, and they passed with winged speed over Hithlum, and they came to Lammoth as a tempest of fire."

Tolkīna oriģināltekstā tomēr vairāk jaušama doma, ka “pass over” ir domāts kā “lidot” un “winged speed” diez vai ir tāpat vien izvēlēts, lai apzīmētu Balrogu ātrumu. Tas drīzāk norāda uz to, ka Balrogiem piemita spēja lidot.

Esmu 100% procenti pārliecināts, ka Balrogi lidot nespēja!!!

Savu pierādījumu balstīšu uz apstākli, ka "fakti", kas apgalvo, ka balrogi lido ir vien Tolkīna kunga metaforas un tēlaini apzīmējumi un NAV uztverami burtiski, turklāt papildināšu to ar citātiem, kas liek stipri apšaubīt šo radījumu lidotprasmi.


Visupirms apskatīsim citātus, kas itkā (tieši tā.. - IT KĀ) pierāda Balrogu lidošanu... (IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/smile.gif)

Esmu pilnīgi pārliecināts, ka vārds "spārni" šajā citātā ir domāts nekas vairāk, kā vien metafora, kas apzīmē ēnu Balrogam viss apkārt, kas ir kā spārni, bet nav spārni... Manu apgalvojumu apstiprina šis citāts - "The Balrog reached the bridge. Gandalf stood in the middle of the span, leaning on the staff in his left hand, but in his other hand Glamdring gleamed, cold and white. His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings." (FotR, The Bridge of Khazad-Dum)

Ja reiz Tolkīns pirmajā citātā būtu domājis īstus spārnus, tad viņa vēlākais salīdzinājums šķistu patiesi muļķīgs.. Bet nu tā kā tā domāta vien metafora, tad viss kārtībā... (IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/smile.gif)

Nū.. šie divi citāti vien parāda to, ka Gimli nepatika ne Balrogi, ne Nazguli! (IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/smile.gif) (interesanti kapēc..(IMG:http://www.kurbijkurne.lv/forums/style_emoticons/kurb_gaiss/laughing.gif) ), un viņš pats, runājot par abiem radījumiem, lieto vārdu "ēna" (shadow), neko nerunājot par to ārējo izskatu, lidošanu, vai citām iemaņām... Abi radījumi izraisīja bailes, abi bija "tumši" un draudīgi... to arī, manuprāt, Gimli uzsvēra, sakot vārdu "ēna"...

Nav pilnīgi nekāda pamata uzskatīt, ka "pass over" būtu jābūt "lidot" un "winged speed" kā lidotprasmes pierādījumu! Kā zināms, Tolkīns mīlēja vēl un vēl pārrakstīt dažādas ainas, mainīdams gan sižetu, gan tīri mākslinieciski pilnveidodams savus tekstus. Tad nu es pameklēju, kas noticis tieši ar šo te rindkopu, un lūk ko es atradu:

"She enmeshes him in a black web, but he is rescued by the Balrogs with whips of flame, and a host of the Orcs; and Ungoliant goes away into the uttermost South."

"...and his awful cry echoed through the shuddering world. To his aid came the Orcs and Balrogs that lived yet in the lowest places of Angband. With their whips of flame the Balrogs smote the webs asunder..."

"...and his awful cry echoed through the shuddering world. To his aid there came the Balrogs that lived yet in the deepest places of his ancient fortress, Utumno in the North. With their whips of flame the Balrogs smote the webs asunder..."

"...and his dreadful cry echoed through the world. Then there came to his aid the Balrogs, who endured still in deep places in the North where the Valar had not discovered them. With their whips of flame they smote her webs asunder..."

un viss beidzot -

"...Far beneath the ruined halls of Angband, in vaults to which the Valar in the haste of their assault had not descended, Balrogs lurked still, awaiting ever the return of their Lord; and swiftly they rose, and passing over Hithlum they came to Lammoth as a tempest of fire..."

Kā redzams, teksts mainījies diezgan ievērojami, tomēr saglabājot nemainīgu īpašību - Balrogi pārvietojās, taču par lidošanu nekas nebija teikts.. Tātad domas par lidošanas iespējamību parādījās vien pēc Tolkīna pēdējo korekciju izdarīšanas, tomēr arī ne pilnīgi droši. Esmu pārliecināts, ka vārdus "passed over" un "winged speed" autors izmantoja vien kā mākslinieciski "noslīpētākus" terminus, un tas arī viss.. Ar lidošanu tam nav nekāda sakara...

To, ka Tolkīns vispār mēdz izmantot "passed over" kā vienkāršas pārvietošanās apzīmējumu jūs varat redzēt šeit -

"Of their [Isildur and company] journey nothing is told until they had passed over the Dagorlad, and on northward into the wide and empty lands south of Greenwood the Great."
UT, The Disaster of the Gladden Fields

"A short way back the road had bent a little northward and the stretch that they [Frodo and Sam] had passed over was now screened from sight."
RotK, The Land of Shadow

"Then Fingolfin beheld (as it seemed to him) the utter ruin of the Noldor, and the defeat beyond redress of all their houses; and filled with wrath and despair he mounted upon Rochallor his great horse and rode forth alone, and none might restrain him. He passed over Dor-nu-Fauglith like a wind amid the dust, and all that beheld his onset fled in amaze, thinking that Orome himself was come..."

Un arī "winged speed", zinot Tolkīna mīlestību pret metaforām, tik pat labi varētu vienkārši nozīmēt "milzīgā ātrumā"...


Tajā pašā laikā, ir atrodami daudzi citāti, kas tieši vai netieši mudina domāt, ka Balrogi lidot neprata... Kā piemēram:

"In the front of that fire came Glaurung the golden, father of dragons, in his full might; and in his train were Balrogs, and behind them came the black armies of the Orcs in multitudes such as the Noldor had never before seen or imagined."

Pa priekšu nāca pūķis, kas bija lidot nespējīgs, tam aiz mguras balrogi... Nu bet kāpēc tiem jārāpo pa zemi un aiz pūķa, ja reiz tie prata lidot?

"Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed; and it is sung that the axe smoked in the black blood of the troll-guard of Gothmog until it withered..."

Kāpēc gan balrogiem būtu jāizmanto troļļi (kas nespēj lidot) par saviem apsargiem, ja reiz tie varēja "pacelties spārnos" un aizlidot? Viens izskaidrojums - viņi nespēja nekur aizlidot!

"The eagles dwell out of reach of Orc and Balrog, and are great foes of Morgoth and his people."
The Earliest 'Silmarillion'

Ne orki (kas nespēja lidot), ne Balrogi nespēja sekot ērgļiem (kas prata lidot)... Tas neviļus liek domāt, ka laikam jau Balrogiem šī prasme arī nepiemita...

"But he loosed upon his foes the last desperate assault that he had prepared, and out of the pits of Angband there issued the winged dragons, that had not before been seen; for until that day no creatures of his cruel thought had yet assailed the air."
Quenta Silmarillion - Conclusion

Skaidri un gaiši tiek pateikts, ka pūķi bija pirmie ļaunie radījumi, kas spēja lidot! Balrogi bija pirms pūķiem, tātad Balrogi lidot nespēj!!!


Vēl viens citāts grāmatā Book of Lost Tales man šķita visnotaļ interesants...

"Then arose Thorndor, King of Eagles, and he loved not Melko, for Melko had caught many of his kindred and chained them against sharp rocks to squeeze from them the magic words whereby he might learn to fly (for he dreamed of contending even against Manwe in the air); and when they would not tell he cut off their wings and sought to fashion therefrom a mighty pair for his use, but it availed not."

Šis citāts norāda, ka Melkoram nepiemita spēja lidot, liekot aizdomāties, ka iespējams šādas spējas nebija nevienam Ainuram (izņemot, iespējams, Manwe), to skaitā arī Balrogiem... Ar to izskaidrojama šaj citātā parādītā Melkora vēlme iegūt "lidošanas māku" ar ko varētu apveltīt sevi un savus "tumšos" radījumus!


Vēl viena lieta... Ja reiz Balrogi prata lidot, tad kādēļ ne Durun`s Bane, ne Balrogs, ko nogalēja Glorfindels, ne daudzie Balrogi, kurus noslaktēja Gondolinā nemetās bēgt (lidojot), kad cīņas raksturs iegrozījās tiem par sliktu? Kādēļ tie nekad neizmantoja šo apstākli savā labā??? Atbilde viena - Balrogi lidot neprata.

Turklāt, nevienā citātā, kas raksturo Balrogus (izņemot citātu FotR), nav pieminēti to spārni, kas liek domāt, ka tādu nemaz šiem radījumiem nav!

Tātad, manuprāt, viss ir pavisam skaidrs un vienkāršs Balrogi lidot neprot!!!
