...just by the way. I remember that during the first round of the debate our team had some problems with word limit. If you want to write a proper post and a rebuttal, you find yourself very limited and two rebuttals are almost impossible. So we decided that we could suggest increasing the limit to 3000 words. Thus we wouldn't need to limit ourselves so much.

1)Vote ONLY if you actually plan on participating in the debate. (this is more for casual post raisers, who post in every poll posted in this forum. If you are actually reading this - it most probably does not pertain to you anyway)

2) State in this topic how you voted and shortly the reasons why you think so. Especially, if you participated in the previous debate we held there.

3)If you don't care, vote "yes" -since obviosly - if no one has any problems with this, then we are changing the limit. (so - naturally I voted yes)

I am neutral on this opinion. 2000 word limit raised no problems for me, because I was planning to write a post, which is about 2000 words long, and edited it accordingly. Had I had to write a 3000 word post - I don't think it would have made any difference.
Argument against:
Longer posts are harder to read - since having a longer post puts less pressure on the author to actually organise the post to make sure the sentences still carry the main thought. We are adding 1/3rd in lenghth - will it make posts contain 33% more sense, or will it only spread the idea the post has over 33% more text?
Argument for:
If Quantity equals Quality and provides for better debate - why not?

I voted Yes, for one reason - if you are responding to the previous post, it might be necessary to quote some parts of it, thus increasing word count, and, as result, limit of 2000 words might proove insufficient.

Here's an oppinnion from a person that does not participate but sometimes wants to see what have you come up with. I would like shorter posts with idea. Makes me more willing to read and may be learn something.

I voted yes for the same reason as Farliner. It might sometimes be that 200 words are insufficient if you are also writing rebutts, quoting etc.

Yes, that I would agree with... But if our Lithuanian friends (as well as some of our own comrades) feel that it is impossible to include any idea at all in 2000 words...

Jebkurā gadījumā - foruma lokālajās debatēs vārdu skaits būs mazāks (gan arī dēļ latviešu valodas specifikas). Nevēlies piedalīties?

Well, it is perfectly possible to include all main-post ideas together with the quotes etc. But then you find yourself in a tight spot if you are supposed to write two full rebuttals. I found that only one proper rebuttal can be written in this limit. But it does not mean that from now on all the posts will obligatory be three thousand words long. Just more freedom.

2x24 hours for 2000 words, 3x24 hours for 3000 words. that should be ok. otherwise it would be just like "butter streched over too much bread"...

And I really felt like stretching it in the previous debate.

Well, shall we change it then? smile.gif

I wanted to announce that most probably we already have a judge for the other round of the debates that is going to take place in the Tolkien Lietuva forums. However, it does not seem that we Lithuanians will be able to start the debates soon - sessions, exams etc. sad.gif Personally, I will be free on 9th June, but before that I have to study hard. It would be nice to hear your opinions. You can drop me a PM if I'm not on MSN when you're online.
