Hi everybody
sorry for my English
I'm curious about few things:
(1) could you write me information about latvian editions of Hobbit, LotR?
I have found in internet information about only two editions:
- First edition: 1991 edition illustrated by Laima Eglďte, and published by Spriditis
- some other edition, I have only cover
Please, could you provide me some more information about Hobbit, LotR publishing history in Latvia?
Could you write: ISBN, edition year, translator name, how many pages, ilustrated or not and maybe cover picture?
(2) Do you know address of some internet shop where I will be able to buy "Hobbit" or "LotR" in latvian language?
(3) How can I post attachments? FAQ is in latvian and unfortunatelly I don't understand it.
Thank you in advance for your answer and Greetings for all Tolkien fans from Latvia
elfy

(1) Publishing history is rather short - two editions of Hobbit, one edition of LoTR.
The first edition of Hobbit (database has no entry, so I am just using my own book. Sorry for flashlight reflection on the cover, and I hope I have transcribed evrerything correctly)
ISBN: 5-410-00159-1
1991 Rīga, Sprīdītis
Translated by Zane Rozenberga
Afterwrod by Zane Rozenberga
Illustrated by Laima Eglīte
194 pages
24 full color, full page illustrations + sepia illustrations before and after each chapter. Of course, Tolkienists will argue that Elfs are not exactly green, they don't have wings and have no resemblance to ents... But this was meant to be a children book. Both maps are included, but they are drawn after the original maps, not merely translated.
The recent editions of Hobbit and Lotr ( I am simply taking the entries from national library public database, which should have data about all books published in Latvian after 2001 or so. It is www.lnb.lv - but it lacks some user-friendliness, especially.)
"Hobits jeb turp un atpakaļ" - ISBN 9984224171 2002 Rīga, Zvaigzne ABC,
translated by Zane Rozenberga, 308 [7] pages, with maps, 20cm; Cover art by Aigars Truhins.
Homepage of the publishers states that this editions includes Tolkien's illustrations from the first edition of Hobbit in 1937. Sorry for the cover picture, but that's the only one I found.

All 3 parts of LoTR looked similar - they are hardcover books, with paper jacket. Pictures above show the paper jacket, the cover itself looks like this sorry flashlight again...:
(Obviously, this is The Two Towers, but if I am not very mistaken, they all looked the same or pretty much the same)
None of the 3 books is illustrated, however they do include maps in a form of illustrations.
Unfortunatly I don't know how to help about (2), maybe someone else can?
Publisher homepages are - http://www.zvaigzne.lv and http://www.jumava.lv - maybe you can find something there.
I have to say I really like the cover of GP. Even though the dustjackets ae debatable... But the cover is truly a hundred times better than the Lithuanian version!
elfy, you can see additional LotR book cover images http://private.livas.lv/jaanise/fanuklubs/fkl-GP.htm.
I haven't included the 3rd book, yet...

Hi
Does anybody knows where can I get first editions of "Hobbit" in latvian & lithuanian language? Do you have some auction portal? like ebay or allegro.pl (poland)? I can't find webpage like that.
Maybe you have friends who will able to sell to me those editions?
If 'yes' then please contact me by email or PM.
Greetings
